Response to ‘Winnipeg’s Biggest Loser’ has been fantastic, and we thank you all for your preliminary interest. Many of you had a lot of great suggestions about the contest and a few questions as well, some of which we’ll attempt to answer here…
So what is this ‘Winnipeg’s Biggest Loser’ I’ve been so much hearing about?
Both HOT 103 and QX 104 are hoping to kick-start a few New Years Resolutions, by signing up 15 teams of 4 to participate in individualized fitness routines for the purposes of losing weight, looking great and feeling better in 2010.
When is this happening?
Registrations are being taken on-line now until Sunday, January 24th. Then we’ll choose winners the week of January 25th, and get them started in 3-month fitness regimes starting the week of February 1st.
How do I sign up and get involved?
Fill out the entry fields below, detailing information about yourself and 3 other team members you’d like to have join you. Winning teams will be selected at random Monday, January 25th.
Are there any age or weight restrictions?
No. We encourage anyone and all people to participate who are 16 years of age or older. Initially, all we’re looking for is a good reason as to why you want to start living healthier, which can be included in your entry below. Should there be a health concern or medically-sound reason as to why you shouldn’t be participating in this contest, it will be flagged in your initial club/trainer meetings the week of January 25th. Clubs and trainers will reserve the right to deny anyone from participating if they feel it puts them at risk. Should that happen, replacement teams will be chosen as required.
How competitive will our trainers be?
We want to stress the fact this ISN’T a competition. The priority is to motivate 60 people to live healthier, along with anyone else who wants to seek that inspiration from home. Prizes are a bonus for whichever team fairs best at the end of it all. Unlike the TV show, weigh-ins and results will be kept private so as not to create any potential for conflict, humiliation, or altered motivation. Results will also not be shared with other sponsors in order to keep the playing field level. A winning team at the end of the competition will be announced, but not in comparison to the other teams. (ie. there will be no second or third place) Remember: The main focus here is not how much weight you lose – it’s the fact you’re losing weight PERIOD.
Where would we be working out?
Fifteen different organizations and trainers will be volunteering their services – one assigned to each winning team. To the best of our abilities, locations will be assigned to teams according to addresses that are most centralized to each group. Participants so far include Shapes, Anytime Fitness/Everest Trainers, Professional Edge Fitness and Conditioning, Adventure Boot Camp For Women, Park West Fitness, Serratus Personal Training, Crossfit Winnipeg, Donna Sarna Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation, Brickhouse Gym, and Fitness Edge For Women just to name a few.
Will there be prizes for the winning team?
Yes. The team at the end of it all (announced Monday, May 3rd), who has lost the highest percentage of combined body weight will win various prizes, including memberships to their respective clubs for the remainder of the 2010 year. More prizes will be added to the contest as we progress.
How much time do we have to put into this?
Schedules and timing will be worked out between you and your trainer(s). A consultation and health assessment will occur the week of January 25th to establish whether you’re able to participate and when/how often you’ll be visiting the training facilities. Keep in mind that each trainer and facility will have your best interests in mind, and are helping you to lose weight and get healthier first – not make themselves look better by winning a competition. This is why final results will be kept a secret until the end of the competition, so as to level the playing field and retain the common goal – to help people live healthier!
We hope this sheds some light on the contest and answers any questions or concerns you may have had about ‘Winnipeg’s Biggest Loser’.
Thanks for your interest in ‘Winnipeg’s Biggest Loser’! Here’s to a happier, healthier 2010!
